The International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) is coming to Ross Glen School on the afternoon of November 30, 2017. This is the 25th anniversary of the United Nations setting aside December 3rd as a day to recognize the contributions of people with disabilities the world over. Here in Medicine Hat we’ve been celebrating IDPD at a different school each year and this year we are going to be at Ross Glen School. People with Disabilities and a variety of agency staff and corporate volunteers will be hosting an all-school assembly and 45 interactive presentations for the students. The majority of the presenters have a disability and they will be sharing their stories, demonstrating specialized equipment, and answering questions. Students will learn what it’s like to live with a disability, how people with disabilities, communicate, play, and so much more. IDPD is an awareness raising event that helps create greater inclusion, acceptance and opportunities for people with disabilities to contribute to the community. If you want further information please access our website: www.idpdmedhat.ca

Head Lice - Reminder for Parents

Although head lice may not be the most exciting topic to chat about, they certainly are a nuisance, and a number of parents have asked for more information about head lice. As per Alberta Health Services direction, we do NOT send out notices about occurrences of head lice in the school, but we do encourage parents to check their children for lice on a somewhat regular basis throughout the year. We do not send the notes home any longer saying that head lice are in a class or the school. At school we do try to take precautions to reduce the likelihood of transmission of head lice, but unfortunately cannot ensure that it does not happen. For more information about head lice, please click on the link below: https://myhealth.alberta.ca/health/pages/conditions.aspx?hwid=hw51114
